چکیده

We explore the behavior of collective nuclear excitations under a multi-parameter deformation of the Hamiltonian. The Hamiltonian matrix elements have the form P (|Hij |) ∝ 1/ √ |Hij | exp(−|Hij|/V ), with a parametric correlation of the type log〈H(x)H(y)〉 ∝ −|x − y|. The studies are done in both the regular and chaotic regimes of the Hamiltonian. Model independent predictions for a wide variety of correlation functions and distributions which depend on wavefunctions and energies are found from parametric random matrix theory and are compared to the nuclear excitations. We find that our universal predictions are observed in the nuclear states. Being a multi-parameter theory, we consider general paths in parameter space and find that universality can be effected by the topology of the parameter space. Specifically, Berry’s phase can modify short distance correlations, breaking certain universal predictions. PACS numbers: 21.60.Fw, 24.60.Lz, 21.10.Re E–mail: [email protected]

Statistical correlations in nuclear many-body states

Statistical correlations of nuclear many-body states are explored in the Odls shell model as a function of the strength of residual interactions. Model independent predictions for correlation functions and distributions, developed from parametric random-matrix theory, are found to describe the observed nuclear behavior for excited states. In particular, we find that correlations generally decre...

Universal spatial correlations in random spinor fields.

We identify universal spatial fluctuations in systems with nontrivial spin dynamics. To this end we calculate by exact numerical diagonalization a variety of experimentally relevant correlations between spinor amplitudes, spin polarizations, and spin currents, both in the bulk and near the boundary of a confined two-dimensional clean electron gas in the presence of spin-orbit interaction. We su...

Spectral correlations of individual quantum graphs.

We investigate the spectral properties of chaotic quantum graphs. We demonstrate that the energy-average over the spectrum of individual graphs can be traded for the functional average over a supersymmetric nonlinear -model action. This proves that spectral correlations of individual quantum graphs behave according to the predictions of Wigner-Dyson random matrix theory. We explore the stabilit...

The Overall Heat Transfer Characteristics of a Double Pipe Heat Exchanger: Comparison of Experimental Data with Predictions of Standard Correlations

The single-phase flow and thermal performance of a double pipe heat exchanger are examined by experimental methods. The working fluid is water at atmospheric pressure. Temperature measurements at the inlet and outlet of the two streams and also at an intermediate point half way between the inlet and outlet is made, using copper-constantan thermocouple wires. Mass flow rates for each stream are ...

Assortative and disassortative mixing investigated using the spectra of graphs.

We investigate the impact of degree-degree correlations on the spectra of networks. Even though density distributions exhibit drastic changes depending on the (dis)assortative mixing and the network architecture, the short-range correlations in eigenvalues exhibit universal random matrix theory predictions. The long-range correlations turn out to be a measure of randomness in (dis)assortative n...
